The Fil-Am Friendship Highway grew to serve the subdivisions built to house personnel working on the former U.S. base, lined with shops and restaurants.  Following the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo it went into a decline until more recently the Korean expat community seized the opportunity and this section of the road is now known as “Korea Town”
